Emerson introduced the Rosemount 9000 Series Magnetic Flow Meter portfolio in 2026, initially featuring the Rosemount 9732 Magnetic Flow Transmitter and Rosemount 9205 Magnetic Flow Sensor. The system is designed to improve measurement stability, simplify installation, and provide more diagnostic information for process operators.
For plants operating in chemical processing, oil and gas, refining, water treatment, and power generation, measurement reliability is not only about the accuracy of the flow signal. Operators also need to identify abnormal process conditions, verify instrument health, and reduce the time required for troubleshooting.
The Rosemount 9000 Series addresses these requirements through an integrated sensor and transmitter design.
The Rosemount 9732 is the signal-processing and control interface of the 9000 Series. It receives the measurement signal from the 9205 sensor and provides configuration, output, and diagnostic functions.
Its key features include:
Smart Meter Verification: Checks meter health and measurement performance without removing the sensor from the process. Basic verification is included, while advanced verification provides additional electrode and coil health information.
Advanced Digital Signal Processing: Helps maintain stable measurement under challenging process conditions.
Smart Fluid Diagnostic: Provides information about changes in process conditions that may affect measurement.
Data Historian: Stores process and diagnostic information to support troubleshooting and historical analysis.
Flexible I/O: Configurable output channels help accommodate different control system requirements.
Universal Power Supply: Supports AC and DC power, simplifying installation planning.
Bluetooth Connectivity: Supports convenient configuration and maintenance activities.
These functions are particularly useful in plants where instruments are installed in difficult-to-access locations or where unexpected shutdowns can result in significant production losses.
The Rosemount 9205 Magnetic Flow Sensor is designed to work with the 9732 transmitter. Its optimized magnetics help produce a faster and more stable magnetic field, supporting consistent measurement performance.
One important feature is its intrinsically safe remote wiring design. This simplifies wiring arrangements and can reduce installation complexity in hazardous areas.
Other design features include:
Available line sizes from 1/2 inch to 8 inches at initial launch, excluding 2.5-inch and 5-inch sizes.
Rugged construction options, including aluminum and all-welded stainless steel designs.
An obstructionless measuring tube with no moving parts.
Optional liner protection for applications where installation damage or abrasive wear is a concern.
Compatibility with the 9732 transmitter for access to the 9000 Series diagnostic functions.
The 9205 is intended for demanding process environments where stable measurement and reliable installation are important.
The 9000 Series is suitable for a range of conductive-liquid measurement applications.
Chemical and Petrochemical Plants
Flow measurement in process lines can be affected by electrical noise, electrode coating, and changing fluid conditions. Diagnostic functions help maintenance teams identify potential measurement issues.
Oil and Gas Facilities
The intrinsically safe sensor wiring design can simplify installation planning in hazardous areas. The final instrument configuration must still meet the site's area classification and approval requirements.
Water and Wastewater Treatment
Magnetic flow measurement is widely used for conductive liquids in water treatment processes. Empty-pipe detection and meter verification can help operators maintain confidence in measurement data.
Power Generation
Reliable flow measurement supports process monitoring and utility systems. Diagnostic records can also help maintenance teams investigate intermittent measurement problems.
The Rosemount 9000 Series introduces new diagnostic and installation capabilities, but it should not be treated as a direct replacement for every existing 8700 Series installation.
The 9732 transmitter is designed for the 9205 sensor and future 9000 Series sensor releases. Emerson states that the 9000 Series transmitter and sensor are not backward-compatible with 8700 Series sensors and transmitters.
The 8700 Series remains an actively supported product portfolio. Therefore, a replacement decision should consider the existing sensor, transmitter, process conditions, installation arrangement, and required diagnostic functions.
Before purchasing a Rosemount 9000 Series magnetic flow meter, provide the following information:
Required sensor size and process connection
Liner and electrode materials
Process fluid conductivity and operating conditions
Operating pressure and temperature
Remote or other installation requirements
Hazardous-area classification and required approvals
Power supply and output signal requirements
Communication and control system requirements
The sensor and transmitter should be specified as a compatible system. Do not assume that an existing Rosemount transmitter can be paired with a 9205 sensor without checking the manufacturer's compatibility information.
We support sourcing and technical selection of Rosemount magnetic flow meters and related instrumentation, including the Rosemount 9732 transmitter and 9205 sensor.
